Thursday’s Texas Hold ‘Em night was so hot, we needed fans to cool the place down!  This fundraiser, a joint of venture of the Arapahoe chapter of the Sermota club and Listen, was the second annual holding of the event, and all those who came to play agreed – it was a blast!  What could be a better combination - a fun night of cards at the awesome Red & Jerry’s, just off Santa Fe at Oxford, and a great benefit for Listen!  We are so grateful to the Arapahoe Sertomas for organizing this event with us, and for supporting us as its beneficiary!  And to Denise and Brad from the Listen board, who made sure it all ran smoothly.   We had a full house – all seats taken – we were flushed with success, and we’re going to make it trips next year!

Katie is profoundly deaf.  She started therapy when she was a little over two years old  and was mainstreamed at the age of five.  She started with two  hearing aids and now  wears one  cochlear implant.

In 2006 Katie, by then a student at Colorado State University, was the Chairperson for the Listen Foundation Non Event.   Two and a half years ago, she transferred from CSU to Palm Beach Atlantic University to pursue a degree in ministry.  In May, 2010, she went on a mission trip to the Philippines and hopes to return so she can continue to do mission work.  Last semester she did an internship at Christ Fellowship Church where she was a community leader for life groups.

On December 18th, 2010 Katie graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Ministry Leadership Studies with a minor in Psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic University!  She feels blessed to have a full-time job starting in January in Cannon Beach, Oregon.  She will be working as a Conference Assistant at the Cannon Beach Christian Convention Center.

In a  letter she thanked everyone for their encouragement and support .  The Listen Foundation  and those of us who have known Katie since she was a little girl just starting on her venture to learn to “listen and talk”, are so proud of her achievements and wish her the best of luck in her new position.

We also ended the year with a Holiday Party for our Listen families, pictures of which are featured on the home page.  I hope you all had a great holiday and are ready for the year to come!

Thank you for listening…and not waiting

Two small local businesses, Denver DataMan and C Squared Computers teamed up to make the award possible, and presented a rather handsome trophy to Pat at a Chamber event.  naturally, we were thrilled, especially as thier chief tech guys, Steve and Chris, agreed to donate valuable tech time and support to help us.  Thank you so much for that, and to honoring Pat for the way she channles her energies into changing the lives of deaf children along the front range!   Want to see Pat receive her award – here it is:  Who’s Your Hero Winners Video

Here it is – our brand new, spiffy, exciting Web site!   Don’t you love it!!  We have Michael at gopixel to thank for designing and building it, and showing us how to keep it up to date.   Which means as well as all our regular information about the mision of Listen, we will have up-to-the-minute news and information about our little non-profit, the work we do, and the people we are involved with.
